Sunday 17th saw us hold our Winter trial at Burrycliffe Quarry, Elton, Derbyshire and it was rewarding to see a good turnout of riders supporting the club at their last trial of the 2017 season and Round 12 of the clubs 2017 Championship.

In the Expert British Bike class Kevin Ellis manhandled his 350 BSA round for a hard earned score of 56 marks lost which considering the cold and wet conditions was a good ride.

Expert Twinshock was a three way battle between Rob Carson, Honda, Louis Bennett, Fantic, and Chris Gascoigne on his Bultaco and that was also the eventual finishing order with Rob coming out on top with a score of 11 marks lost. Louis having slightly less cleans and recording 27 and with Chris still getting used to his Bultaco dropping 37 marks over the 4 laps of 10 sections.

Classic Expert British saw Robs dad Peter Carson back out after a long lay off, due to work commitments, on his Bantam record an excellent performance to lose a mere 3 marks to take the win ahead of second place man Garry Shaw, Ariel Arrow, on 16 marks lost finally mastering his new bike and in third Simon Smith on his James who lost 23 marks tying up third place.

Classic Expert Twinshock was a much more closely fought affair with Lee Devey on his Whitehawk making his debut with us losing 41 marks. In second place Martyn Nelson, Yamaha, nipping at his heels but having to settle for second on 47 marks just pipping Tony Sprinks, Bultaco, into third on 50 marks. Nip and tuck all the way as it should be.

Intermediate British Bike saw another two new faces with Vernon Roberts, Bantam, taking the win on 8 marks just one ahead of second placed man Brian Cooper, Tiger Cub, leaving local man Chris Boyett on his Cotton to tie up third on 78 marks lost. Hopefully we will see Vernon and Brian again soon.

Intermediate Twinshock saw David Pattison back to his winning ways on his Bultaco who had a super ride to lose only 8 marks ahead of a close fought battle between Stephen Knight, Yamaha, and Gary Martin, SWM, with Stephen finishing in second on 17 marks and Gary keeping him honest with his score of 19.

Intermediate over 50ís on moderns saw Andy Foot back with us on his Gas Gas Pampera trail bike c/w indicators and lights training for the long distance trial season and losing only 12 marks in the process. Well the observed long distance sections should be a breeze for Andy at this rate. Also managed to show a clean pair of heals to a lot of riders on pukka trials machinery on the day.

Obviously the Classic Intermediate British bike class rode a much easier route with the winner Paul Beswick, James, having a clean ride ahead of second placed Mike Sanderson, Tiger Cub, having a three on section 5 to blot his copy book and in third place Mick Sheldon, Bantam, having an unlucky 5 also on section 5 to mar his aspirations for a dab free ride.

Classic Intermediate Twinshock saw birthday boy Bill Brown out on his Fantic celebrate with another clean ride ahead of second placed Margaret Carter, Majesty, having three single prods to record a loss of 3 but Margaret is still recovering from shoulder surgery which is still giving her concern so getting back to being bike fit was her major concern. Still a good ride though. In third was Tony Shaw who lost 5 marks on his Bultaco after having an off before the start and shattering his rear mudguard so he ended up quite muddy but happy.

Clubman British Bike saw Arthur Tomkinson, Greeves, deliver yet another polished performance to take the win on 7 marks lost ahead of second placed Dave Pickering on his Bantam who lost 25 marks.

Clubman Twinshock saw the tie break wheeled out to separate two riders both on clean which seemed harsh but there can only be one winner and this time that was Jonathan Waters on his Suzuki ahead of Championship leader Martin Rickman with Martin Harrison, Yamaha, securing third on 6 marks lost. Love a tight fight it brings out the best in people.

Clubman Pre 95 ACM saw an ever improving Paul Sheldon, Yamaha, take another class win for a loss of 23 marks ahead of Mark Booth, Fantic, in his first season finishing on a credible 50 marks. 2018 will see much better things for these two riders I am sure.

Final class of the day was Over 50ís on moderns and in first place was Bruce Bolton, Beta, on clean and in second place so near but so far was Cliff Richards, Ossa, shadowing Bruce with a loss of a single dab leaving Anthony Harris to fill third spot on his Montesa with a score of 23.

Thanks go out to the landowner Barry Burton just one of the many landowners who have been so kind as to let us use their venues.

Also we would like to thank all the people who turned out over the year to help make our day that little bit better namely the observers. We hope to see you all back again with us in 2018 and if anyone knows of anyone who would come along and join in the fun please bring them along. Guidance will be given along with a small token of our appreciation.

Focus now moves to 2018 and a new season with Round 1 being at Clifton Scrambles course on January 28th See you there.
