Last Sunday Peak Classic Trials Club held round 9 of its 2017 Club Championship at Longcliffe tops, Longcliffe, Nr Matlock, Derbyshire.

The riders who turned out to support the club were treated to 4 laps of a 10 section course all along the steep hillside that dominates the venue.

Expert Twinshock was won by young Louis Bennett aboard his Fantic with a loss of 14 marks ahead of second placed man Rob Kelsall who lost 18. Well ridden both of you because the rocky outcrops and grassy banks were not easy.

Travelling all the way from Higham Ferrers in Northamptonshire Dean Deveraux showed real class on his Honda TLM in the Pre 95 Air cooled mono class to win with a loss of a mere 14 marks 10 of which were lost on section 1 so an excellent ride and well worth the long journey.

In the Classic Expert British Bike class Richard Turner brought his Tiger Cub home in first place losing just 7 marks in the process. Close behind was second place man Simon Smith with a score of 9 on his James and in third a closely fought battle between Adrian Bibby, Greeves, and Garry Shaw, James, with Adrian being the lucky recipient due to the tie break. Both guys lost 11 marks which was an excellent performance by them both.

Classic Expert Twinshock was just as closely fought with Rob Mycock taking the top spot on his Majesty with a loss of just 3 marks. In second place was Bob Sherras on 8 marks and just the single mark behind was Anthony Sprinks also Bultaco mounted on 9. Well fought guys.

Intermediate Twinshock became a David Pattison masterclass with him dropping just the 2 marks on section 4. Second placed Gary Martin, SWM, had a good ride but could only respond with a score of 18 leaving Rob Jones on his Honda to take third on 25 marks.

Classic Intermediate British Bike saw one of three clean sheets on the day with a stunning performance by Peter Elvidge on his Bantam to stay feet up. Second placed Paul Beswick, James, Had a slack dab on section 6 and that moments lack of concentration on the steep climb meant he had to settle for second. Another Bantam rider Mick Sheldon took third place on 3 marks with the course drying out as the day went on making it slightly easier than intended but well ridden one and all.

The other clean sheet of the day was recorded by Nick Colledge on his Yamaha with his superb performance keeping Bill Brown, Fantic, in second on 2 marks lost on section 2 and in third place was Margaret Carter recovering from shoulder surgery but still putting in a sterling performance to lose just 3 marks all single dabs. She was very sore at the end but it looks like she will soon be back to full fitness.

Clubman British Bike was a two way battle between Arthur Tomkinson on his Greeves and Bantam mounted Dave Pickering. At the flag it was Arthur who took the win on 3 marks ahead of Dave on 6 but good performances by both riders.

Clubman Twinshock saw yet another clean sheet from Yamaha mounted Bryan Devereaux leaving current Championship leader Martin Rickman, Ossa, to consolidate his Championship position with second place on 7 marks lost. Third place went to an ever improving Andy Wright on his Beamish Suzuki who lost 11 marks in the process.

Clubman Pre 95 Air cooled monoshock saw two newcomers to the sport in the shape of Mark Booth, Fantic , and Paul Sheldon, Yamaha, fight it out for eventual honours with Mark just taking the win with a loss of 71 marks and this left Paul to take second close behind on 76.

Last but by no means least the Clubman over 50ís on modern class saw Cliff Richards take the win with the loss of two single dabs to leave him on 2 with Anthony Harris, Montesa, taking second on 15 a single mark ahead of third place man Dave Hodson, Gas Gas, on 16.

Our next event will be on 29th October at Cookes Wood, Youlgrave, Nr Matlock, Derbyshire start time as usual will be 11.00am.

A BIG thank you to Alan Cooper for allowing us to use the venue and we hope to be able to come back in 2018 to ride here again. Thanks also to those unsung heroes the observers who always help make our day that little bit more enjoyable.
